Epsidoe 0: Ishara Comix Has Returned
Well, I said I wasn't going to do it, and then I did it. I've started another webcomic after leaving my other one to die about this same time last year. I've felt so empty without having a comic to draw, so I've decided to start over, although now it's a little different.
The most obvious thing to note is that I no longer hand-pixel the comix. They actually look like they were 'drawn'. This effect is accomplished by using a tool in InkScape [
link] called 'Trace Bitmap'. This allows me to draw a smooth path over my line art resulting in a nice little effect, as well as a scalable vector which can be sized and resized to fit any dimensions.
I like this effect because it makes my comix more true to the way I draw them - making it more about my drawing and less about postponing certain aspects of the picture for the 'digital inking' part (where I would usually render my awful backgrounds and such). Another nice thing is that this is much faster. It took me about one hour in total to draw, render, and add the text to this one, where a typical comic Episode would usually run me about 3-4 hours.
Another thing worthy of note is that in the spirit of the GNU GPL [
link], I've made my comix 'open source,' in that I keep all of the original vectors that are used to make these things. I won't put them on my website (that would double the space), but I'll make them available to anyone who asks for them. The comix are licensed under the CC-BY-SA license (see the bottom of the page). You can use, share, remix, and distribute (even commerically) Ishara-related stuff so long as you extend those same rights to whoever you distribute them to (and say who the original author is. You can just provide a link to the IC website).
Another thing you might notice is that I'm going to start writing really verbose comments to go along with these comix. You can ignore them for the most part. XD
